Application Details This work experience programme provides Participants with an opportunity to gain meaningful work experience, learning and training while on the programme. This programme is for jobseekers that are in receipt of qualifying social welfare payments and those transferring from a social welfare scheme. Your eligibility for this programme will have to be verified by the Department as part of the application process. If you are in receipt of the Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) you will be required to transfer to a Jobseekers payment in order to participate on the programme.
Job Description
The successful candidate will be inducted into the catering assistant role and will gain practical experience in the following:
• Prepping vegetables and salads and assisting the chefs.
• Use of all kitchen equipment.
• Daily cleaning of the kitchen and utensils.
• Assisting in the preparation of desserts during service also in making sandwiches, wraps.
• Preparing side orders and knowing the number of portions required.
• Operating our HACCP system which includes temperature control and dating stickers.
• Use of all equipment in the kitchen area.
• Knowledge of stock and equipment.
• The participant will be trained and mentored daily. Role Description
This is a training and work experience opportunity; no prior experience in this role is necessary. Accredited and/or sector recognised training will be provided to support your placement. Participants are eligible to participate in the WPEP QQI Work Experience Module which was developed by the Education & Training Boards in collaboration with the Department of Social Protection. This optional module will fulfil your accredited training requirements for the WPEP.
The participant will receive formal/informal training and mentoring in the following:
• HACCP for food.
• Food handling process.
• Preparation of vegetables and salads.
• Training with the chefs to provide lunch service for the office team.
• Plating and presentation of food to a high standard for events.
• Training in hygiene and cleaning of the kitchen and areas in use.
• Knowledge of stock and equipment.
• Communication skills.
• Team working skills.
