Update to Councillor Brigid Teefy from Area Engineer on the Caherconlish R513 Road. We recently undertook site investigation works to determine the condition of the road and the underlying causes of the structural failures on the R513 Caherconlish. As expected the subgrade has a very low bearing capacity therefore causing the settlement on the road pavement and requires substantial road reconstruction. Limerick City and County Council made a request for funding to the department to allow us to complete some necessary repairs in 2025. Funding has been allocated for the current year’s road improvement programme. Currently we have engaged with consultant engineers to provide a detailed design for the road. These works will include the installation of a new drainage network from Caherline GAA field to the local petrol station, sections of the existing road to be dug out to a depth of roughly 1 meter, installation of a new road structure and road surface. These works will have an impact on the community and other road users as the Road will require to be closed for the duration of the works and the detour will be from Herbertstown to Ballyneety. To minimise the disruption to the road users we are planning on completing the works during the summer period. I understand you must be getting a lot of enquiries about planned works for the road repairs I would appreciate if you could help circulate the news that the necessary repair works are planned to be undertaken during the school holidays and we will do our best to minimise disruption for the local community, but in order to allow us complete the works safely and effectively the road will have to be closed.
