ADVENT begins this weekend.  The first candle on the Wreathe represents the people down through history who longed for the coming of Christ.  Christianity focuses on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, who Christians believe to be the Son of God.   Christmas celebrates Jesus' birth - so the Advent period reminds Christians to remember and prepare for those celebrations. Ceremony will take place in churches; carols will be sung, and Nativity plays, and Christmas shows will be performed by local schools.

FUNERAL MINISTRY Teams have been formed in parishes throughout the Diocese over the past few months at the request of Archbishop Kieran. The Funeral Ministry team consists of lay men and women who have been trained in providing support at a time of loss to bereaved families. The Ministers will be involved in leading some of the prayers at the family home or funeral home, in the church or on occasion at the graveside or crematorium.

In the coming weeks the Team Members will shadow the priests at funerals as part of their training for their parish work in the future. We wish them every blessing in their new ministry. We also need to set up a Funeral Ministry in our parish. What do you think?  The Archbishop wants it, and the training will be soon, so we have to be ready.  If you feel this is a way in which you would like to help out contact fr. Roy or any member of the PPC.
