I want to be the best that I can be in this school year ahead. Amen.

The NATIONAL SYNTHESIS document from the 26 dioceses was sent to Rome by the Bishops recently. This is a Major milestone in the history of the Catholic Church in Ireland as the Vatican is urged to make radical changes. This LANDMARK report on the views of tens of thousands of Irish Catholics has called for equal treatment of women in terms of leadership and decision-making, and for their ordination to the diaconate and priesthood. Demands by Irish Catholics for major change in the church’s attitude to women, LGBTI+ people, those who are divorced or remarried, and single parents have been sent to Rome. It is to be hoped that Ireland’s National Synthesis document contributes to the significant change necessary and which most people of goodwill believe essential to emerge from the Synod of Bishops in Rome next year, and for which it was prepared as part of worldwide consultation with Catholics.

We need to prepare for a Lay-led parish due to shortage of priests. READ the Synthesis document:

The conclusions call for a new model of running parishes– of co-responsible leadership of priests and people. A number of dioceses are removing the title of Parish Priest to encourage more co-responsibility by everyone in the Parish. We have to ask what kind of actions can make this new model of Parish a reality. Some parishes are introducing Lay people to lead the evening funeral ceremony and prayers in the graveyard.
